CLEANING OF AIR DUCTS AND AIR CONDITIONERS ON BOATS

CLEANING OF AIR DUCTS, DUCTS AND FIXED AIR CONDITIONERS

Cleaning and sanitising air ducts and air conditioners are essential to ensure the perfect efficiency of the systems themselves and the healthiness of the air and the environment.

During the year, a layer of dusty particulate matter is deposited inside the air ducts and air conditioning systems: sanitising the air conditioning ducts consists in removing it, thus eliminating the risk of contaminating the environments with bacterial pollutants.

The sanitisation of air conditioning systems, provided for by Ministerial Decree no. 38 of 2008 and updated in 2013, consists in the removal of this dusty layer, thus avoiding the dangerous contamination of environments with bacterial pollutants.

Cleaning split air conditioners, ducts and filter air ducts falls within current legislation and specifically:

In the field of health and safety protection in the workplace, Legislative Decree 81/2008 art. 64, obliges employers to ensure that workplaces, systems and devices are regularly cleaned, in order to ensure adequate hygienic conditions. This obligation also concerns air conditioning and ventilation systems and their components.

Annex IV – Workplace requirements - point 1.9 Microclimate subpoint 1.9.1 “Ventilation of workplaces” states with reference to air conditioning systems:

· 1.9.1.4 The air conditioning systems themselves must be periodically subjected to checks, maintenance, cleaning and sanitisation to protect the health of workers.

· 1.9.1.5 Any sediment or dirt which could pose an immediate danger to the health of workers, due to pollution of the air they breathe, must be eliminated promptly.
