Only since the 1990s has its use been prohibited, because the dispersion of its very thin and easily inhalable fibres, caused above all by deterioration, can cause diseases such as asbestosis, pleural mesothelioma, and lung cancer. The removal and disposal of asbestos, therefore, is a delicate and fundamentally important operation.

The dispersion of its fibres, caused mainly by deterioration, can create the following diseases for those who breathe them:

Asbestosis
Pleural mesothelioma
Lung cancer

Because of its high health risk, asbestos must be treated with great caution. In this case, it is better to rely on companies specialised in this sector. This is the hypothesis provided for by Article 7 of Ministerial Decree 471/1999, which materialises in the immediate obligation to notify the competent authorities, by the person responsible for the pollution, of the exceeding of the limits.

Servizi Ecologici has among its staff a director and asbestos manager (one of the twelve that was trained by the Liguria region for the provinces of Savona and Imperia). The director and asbestos manager can provide any type of advice on asbestos, prepare work plans in accordance with the law, and can direct asbestos removal sites.

These services are aimed at public and private bodies and all industries.

Safety during asbestos extraction operations

Servizi Ecologici ensures maximum safety on its construction sites. Operations begin with securing the sites: by positioning extractors equipped with high-efficiency filters and through meticulous wrapping with plastic sheets, we can guarantee zero emission of asbestos fibres into the air outside the construction site.

Operator safety is guaranteed by watertight suits and masks compliant with current regulations (with air supply or assisted ventilation). Once removed, asbestos is packaged in airtight bags, while volatile fibres are aspirated using special extractors and packaged in double-sealed bags.

At the end of the construction site, the asbestos fibres present are counted using transmission electron microscopy to completely eliminate any residue.
